IEEE Standard Methods for Measuring Transmission Performance of Analog and Digital Telephone Sets, Handsets, and Headsets

Summary

Revision Standard - Superseded.
Practical methods for making laboratory measurements of electroacoustic characteristics of analog and digital telephones, handsets, and headsets are provided in this revised standard. The methods may also be applicable to a wide variety of other communications equipment, including cordless, wireless, and mobile communications devices. Measurement results may be used to evaluate these devices on a standardized basis. Application is in the frequency range 100–8500 Hz.

Define objective test methods for determining the transmission characteristics of analog and digital telephone sets, handsets and headsets.
To provide practical methods for making laboratory measurements of the transmission characteristics of analog and digital telephone sets so that their performance may be evaluated on a standardized basis. Revision is necessary to cover applications to types of telephone sets not in common use and to measurements not required at the 1992 publication of the current standard. It also incorporates the content of IEEE 1206-1994 relative to handsets and headsets.
