IEEE P1722
IEEE Draft Standard for a Transport Protocol for Time-Sensitive Applications in Bridged Local Area Networks
Summary
Revision Standard - Active - Draft.
The protocol, device discovery, connection management, and device-control procedures used to facilitate interoperability between audio- and video- and control-based end stations that use IEEE 1722–based streams using native IEEE 1722 frames or using IEEE 1722 IP UDP encapsulated frames on IEEE 802–based networks are specified.
This standard specifies extensions to IEEE Std 1722™ to add support for ITU-T (Telecommunication Standardization Sector of ITU) Recommendation H.265 v7 (11/2019) -- High efficiency video coding -- and AOMedia Video 1 video compression format (AV1), support for various image sensors using Generic Image Sensors Format (GISF), and Audio/Video Transport Protocol (AVTP) Control Format (ACF) for additional data types including Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C), Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), Controller Area Network extended data-field length (CAN_XL) and others. This standard helps to improve the Clock Reference Format (CRF) format, the CAN (Controller Area Network) and LIN (Local Interconnect Network) formats, and support for tracking Grandmaster Clock (as defined in IEEE Std 802.1AS-2020™) changes supporting longer presentation time intervals and Grandmaster Identity. This standard adds AVTP version 1 optional headers. Use case specific annexes are added to support ACF types where needed. This project also fixes various bugs found in the previous revision of the standard.
This standard facilitates interoperability between end stations that transport time-sensitive media across LANs providing time synchronization, latency, and bandwidth services by defining additional packet format protocols, synchronization mechanisms, and diagnostic counters.
