This recommended practice is intended to serve in the preparation of standards that are principally concerned with the thermal endurance of EIM and simple combinations of such materials, with the establishment of limiting temperatures of EIS, and with the provision of general principles for thermal classification of EIS.

Change title to a recommended practice, revise table 1, add a table to part IV, coordinate the revisions of IEEE 1, 98, and 99 for consistency, review terms and definitions for harmonization with IEC85 and IEC 505-1, revise Foreward.
To make the title consistent with the text. To include all temperature indexes for materials and temperature classes for insulation systems. To harmonize with IEC 85 and 505-1.
