Amendment Standard - Active.
\n
This amendment specifies a MAC Privacy protection encapsulating protocol and its use in conjunction with the MAC Security protocol (MACsec) to hide the source and destination MAC addresses of user data frames, and to reduce any correlation between observable frame sizes and transmission timing. This helps to protect user and application identities and to hide the purpose and content of communications. Management of MACsec and privacy protection is supported by YANG models and SNMP MIBs. Privacy considerations for bridged networks are reviewed. New IEEE Standard - Superseded.
\n
This standard specifies how all or part of a network can be secured transparently to peer protocol entities that use the MAC Service provided by IEEE 802® LANs to communicate. MAC security (MACsec) provides connectionless user data confidentiality, frame data integrity, and data origin authenticity.
\n
          \t\t\t\t
\n
The scope of this standard is to specify provision of connectionless user data confidentiality, frame data integrity, and data origin authenticity by media access independent protocols and entities that operate transparently to MAC Clients.
\n
This standard will facilitate secure communication over publicly accessible LAN/MAN media for which security has not already been defined, and allow the use of IEEE Std 802.1X, already widespread and supported by multiple vendors, in additional applications.

          Revision Standard - Superseded.
\n
Port-based network access control allows a network administrator to restrict the use of IEEE 802 LAN service access points (ports) to secure communication between authenticated and authorized devices. This standard specifies a common architecture, functional elements, and protocols that support mutual authentication between the clients of ports attached to the same LAN and that secure communication between the ports, including the media access method independent protocols that are used to discover and establish the security associations used by IEEE 802.1AE MAC Security.
\n
          \t\t\t\t
\n
For the purpose of providing compatible authentication, authorization, and cryptographic key agreement mechanisms to support secure communication between devices connected by IEEE 802® Local Area Networks (LANs), this standard
\n
          a) Specifies a general method for provision of port-based network access control.
\n
          b) Specifies protocols that establish secure associations for IEEE Std 802.1AE™ MAC Security.
\n
          c) Facilitates the use of industry standard authentication and authorization protocols.
\n
IEEE 802 LANs are deployed in networks that convey or provide access to critical data, that support mission critical applications, or that charge for service. Protocols that configure, manage, and regulate access to these networks and network-based services and applications typically run over the networks themselves. Port-based network access control regulates access to the network, guarding against transmission and reception by unidentified or unauthorized parties, and consequent network disruption, theft of service, or data loss.
